My Journey

Be it participating in Cyber-Olympiads in school or coding challenges through college, I always found the process of understanding and solving problems engrossing. Since graduating with a Bachelor’s in Comp Sci, I started developing mobile interfaces for a small e-commerce application at CarrotBox. I later progressed to a larger scale while at ADP, working on their Time and Labor Kiosk interfaces. Working for these product-based companies taught me to view products fundamentally as tools designed to help people achieve their goals. I realized that a product is a means to an end, and by focusing on the users and their desired outcomes, we can create more effective solutions.

While at ADP, I often encountered client feedback for our payroll products. I was fascinated to learn how addressing these concerns had resulted in helping save time and money(literally) for our clients. It was rewarding knowing how solving problems in this context had a more tangible result and helped real people have a better experience using our products. While there, I first realized the importance of usability in a product. I joined the product planning meetings, where I met designers and product managers to try to make the product more effective. I started learning more about how design affects the efficacy of a product, which led me to take up my first design project, which involved creating branding and mockups for a retail mobile application. Working on this project reinforced my confidence in pursuing a career in the product design field to create practical tools as products.

Fast forward to today, after deciding to hone my skills further, I have recently graduated with a master’s in Human-Centered Computing from UMBC. I’ve had the opportunity to work on exciting projects throughout as a graduate student — redesigning the Tourism website of my native city, improving my university’s ed-tech platform, designing t-shirts for Engineer’s Day, and much more. My latest work was one to satiate my curiosity at The HCD Experience, where I explored the effectiveness of prototyping in code in contrast to prototyping using design tools such as Figma, Miro, etc.

I'm looking for opportunities to use my learned skills and am excited about directly affecting people's lives through intelligently designed systems.
